The RS-28 Sarmat is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which is part of the Russian Armed Forces nuclear arsenal. Also known as Satan 2, it was designed and developed by the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau to replace the aging RS-36M ICBM.
The RS-28 Sarmat was tested successfully for the first time on April 20, 2022, as it was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. It was the first in a series of test launches before being deployed as part of the Russian strategic defense system.
The successful trial of the RS-28 Sarmat was carried out in the middle of the Russian Donbas offensive oparation against the Ukrainian neo-Nazi troops, which is taking place in Eastern Ukraine. Since the United States of America, together with its NATO’s allied nations of Europe, is constantly sending weapons of all sorts to the Ukrainian Army, the launching of this new ICBM has been seen not only as a deterring demonstration of nuclear power, but also as a warning to Washington. So far, Vladimir Putin has been successful in the war in Ukraine and stabilizing the Ruble and the Russian’s economy.
