Kalashnikov RPL-20

The Kalashnikov RPL-20 is a 5.45-mm-caliber light machine gun, which has been developed and built for the Russian Ground Forces. This new infantry weapon can be fitted out with a long Picatinny rail, which enables it to use various types of sights and aiming systems. These aiming devices do not need to be removed when the weapon is reloaded or field-stripped for cleaning. The first batch of 3,000 machine guns were delivered to the Russian infantry units in July 2024.

Technical Description

The Kalashnikov RPL-20 fires the 5.45x39-mm cartridge, from a belt feeding system. This belt is contained in a 200-round magazine. The machine gun also features a bipod and an extendable stock. It employs a gas-operated system for re-loading and ejection of empty casings, firing from closed rotating bolt. The Picatinny rail on top and the one under the receiver also allows to mount a transport handle and a grip, respectively. The grip is used when firing the weapon from a standing position.

The RPL-20 new machine gun has a rate of fire of 800 round per minute. The cocking handle and the safety and fire-selector switch are on the right side of weapon. It can fire in single-shot or fully automatic mode. Its effective firing range is 700 m. Its construction is basically stamped steel sheet.
