FAB-3000

The FAB-3000 is a 3,000-kg air-dropped, conventional bomb in the arsenal of the Russian Air Force. Manufactured by the thousands by the Soviet Union during the Cold War, it was recently upgraded into a precision guided munition, which is fitted with an electronic, optical sensor and folding wings, which spread out as soon it is dropped from the aircraft. It uses the Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber as its launching platform. Today, it is manufactured by Rostec defense conglomerate.

The FAB-3000 is a three-ton aerial bomb, which is also equipped with a universal planning and correction module, which was developed by the Russian company Tactical Missiles Corporation. It can be dropped from the aircraft flying faraway from the intended target and still strike it with high precision. Armed with a 1,400-kg high-explosive warhead, it has a damage radius of 200 m. It is used against communication centers and highly-protected command posts, with reinforced concrete roof up to 3-m thick.

Below, a photograph ofthe FAB-3000 on exhibition. You can see the addition folding wings, which enable the bomb to glide and be dropped from faraway.
