The KH-BD cruise missile is the latest generation of air-to-ground missile in the arsenal of the Russian Air Force. Not only is it a long-range but it is also a supersonic cruise missile. It can travel at the speed of 1,500 km per hour and it has a range of 6,500 km (about 4,000 miles). Thus, it can easily reach targets in the UK and France, if it is fired from within the Russian air space.
The KH-BD cruise missiles can be armed with multiple warheads, capable of hitting different locations, as well as one small nuclear warhead. Its launching platforms are the Tupolev Tu-160 and the Tu-95 turboprop bomber, with the former being able to carry up to twelve KH-BD missiles and the latter six in internal bomb-bay. The Sukhoi Su-57 and the Su-35 multi-role fighter aircraft can also be adapted to carry them.
According to reliable source, a batch of fifty KH-BD cruise missiles were delivered to the Russian Air Force last September, 2023. Precise technical information about this lethal weapon is classified, and the Russians are good at keeping things secret as they do everything military under a pall of mystery.
